Rise Above Plastics

Bags floating like jellyfish in the ocean

The program seeks to reduce the amount of plastics making their way into our beach and marine environments through education and outreach efforts. Click here to learn how you can help.

Mission Accomplished!

Our chapter has been campaigning for single-use plastic bag ban and styrofoam container ban in City of Long Beach by sending signed postcards to City’s elected officials.

Because of our efforts and collaboration with other environmental groups, City Council adopted the plastic bag ban in 2011 (before the state-wide ban) and Styrofoam ban in 2018.

Effective January 1, 2019, single-use plastic straws are only given upon request at full-service restaurants in California (AB1884).
