We are stoked to share that the second annual San Gabriel River cleanup was a great success! A huge shout out of gratitude to Aquarium of the Pacific, our partner for this event.
60+ volunteers turned out on the morning of Sunday, June 1st to clean up the riverbed in the area in and around the sea turtle habitat. Their efforts resulted in diverting a total of 3,340 lbs from our waterways (a single ton is 2,200 lbs, to put it all into perspective). These numbers are quadruple the turnout and results from last year!
Cleanup organizer/Long Beach Chapter executive committee member Leslie Garcia stated, "Witnessing community members quite literally roll up their sleeves and fully commit to the cause in such great numbers was inspiring. Volunteers could be seen in any direction you turned and we had no shortage of waste to go around! As a team, we are incredibly proud to deliver this event for a second year in a row and truly aim to scale it in every year to follow. We invite additional organizations who may share our values to reach out and join in on the fun."
