Rise Above Plastics: The Long Beach Chapter seeks to educate the public on the dangers that plastic pollution poses to the marine environment. We work to remove plastics from the waste stream, promote reusable materials, and provide a visual representation of pollution in the environment. Goals for this Year:
Plastic Bag Ban: Support existing City of Long Beach ordinance, and Statewide plastic bag ban effort; promote use of reusable bags throughout the community
Polystyrene/Foam Ban: Work with the City of Long Beach to explore and adopt a polystyrene (foam and plastic) ordinance to remove these harmful materials from the waste stream, and promote the Beach Friendly Restaurant program
Hold on to Your Butts: Work with City of Long Beach to install ashtrays to prevent cigarette pollution from entering waterways
